My Poly Journey Year 1.1 & 1.2 ( 2018 )

After NS and  1 year of working in Part-Time I finally made a decision to go poly. I had  enrolled chosen Common Engineering Program  - CEP Programmed it means all year 1 students had the same foundation once we all year 2 we will being split out to different courses.
 

There also a Week 0 where all student came back for orientation and also get to know our CP called the Care Person - and also Class orientation camp for 2 days 1 night to know  the school better and there also river raggatta etc Schools Engs fight for Dragon boat with other school etc after that we had like a cheers competition. There some clubbing too ater the reggatta in school hall but I din attend because I am too tired to attend.

After the whole week 0 ended. Our week 1 has started.However It been a very hectic year for me because I haven been studied for like almost 6 years gaps before coming to poly and , I realize that the school pace is really very fast compared to ITE where they understood student learning pace. Also  the module I took is really unrelated to my ITE courses that I had taken.

After like few months in  poly, I struggled really hard and had poor time management because I learned that we had to watch some and do quiz and videos before coming to class which I did not know and I told my Care Person with regard about my situation  that I could not cope in class , and one of my teacher actually took the initiative to help me and guide me in midterm exam by give me more extra lesson Learning Support Program called the LSP etc  for Circuit analysis etc , because I do not understand what teacher were talking about so its like a consultation where we ask teacher about the things that we did not understand etc.

 

However its very late that I had start preparing my Midterm exam during my year 1.1 and I had failed like quite number of modules because I am lost.

Modules Taken during 1.1 - Circuit Analysis (Core), Emath 1(Core), CPPS, Dfund 1, Icommunication (TP fun) .Failed CKT, Emath 1 and Dfund 1.

Modules Taken 1.2 CKT ,DFUND1,EMATH 1 , EPT,WorkCom,Care 1,Physics 

CKT - Like Series or Parallel  electrical calculation using ohms law 

Dfund 1 -  Binary gates etc , Boolean Algebra 

Emath 1 - Complex Number Math etc 

The electronic prototype we get to solder on PC board how to read diagram,make speaker and Lamp.

For Physics we learned like Internal Light reflection etc  I din take O levels so I attended LSP conducted by Dr Cha and Mr Tan. Where we also ask question and clarify those that we are unsure off.

Sadly my year 1.1 din turn well I really want get to  the courses that I wanted like etc mechatronics because I learned in Higher nitec that is related to the course.

​

At 1.2 I retook the modules and attend extra lesson LSP  consultation with a few of my classmate and teacher every Friday where all my friends get to enjoy to go and rest while I in school study for the modules get to formalize the term test question and what to expect what will be tested and how guage our learning pace  etc .

​

Before the pandemic, I also had mug a lot at the school library and Bugis library alone - and I did not really mix around because I am afraid of failing and thankfully there are past year paper to guide me the test -  people say that in poly we had mix around in order to score well.

But as for me I really do not want to burden them because if I mixed with a group study for sure I cannot focus and distractive. And  I can say I am really a loner in poly for year 1.

 

I chose this background also had a reason because he just like me a lone person in the beach staring out of the sea.

 

Sometimes I do felt ashame and ask help for school work despite I am age 27 and they are like 18 and 19 years of age etc. And I need to learn to be thick-skinned.

​

No choice because  I am really having a hard time understanding some modules so all I had to is to ask due to my level of English understanding. Off cause I would want to be independent.And want to score good grades etc GPA 3 and above.

​

Finally, after months studying in school, I know how the school system work, like scoring for quiz ,cp, and projects etc ...

​

After the lesson learned for being remodule  I am very scared of failing again and had anxiety of failing the modules after I encountered 1.1 .

 

Some classmate of my friends are smart and very strong in their area where I am just like a peanut butter where I cannot catch up there pace in their learning.

Big Brain Vs Small Brain. I really do envy friends who are smart but some din uses it well because of there learning attitude. 

 

One of my friends and most of them in my class are very smart and only handful know my situation some friends.I took initiative ask for help and he help and guided me in Math,but he really wasted his time and energy in school and he failed 2 times in his other modules but got kicked out because he had the wrong mixed with friends and attitude towards the teacher were very rude.  

​

 

However, I din managed to get the courses that I had wanted but only Clean Energy - I am only the one in the class to get to CER where all get electronics and biomedical etc. Some friends of mine are laughing at my course etc toilet bowl etc and I felt weird about it.

Clean Energy is not the course that I had wanted to go about but I am very thankful that these courses are considered quite good because I had many nice lecturers I had met know my condition, and I learned about this course about dealing with electrical, solar, fuel cell, etc. Thankfully the timetable also not as hectic as my classmates.

There are some modules also required to had grouping but I do not like group work and trying my best to blend in with the team at least to contribute. Because it trains you in soft communication skills when you go to work.

However, I still managed to put through off cause during group work there are happened and bond to be many disagreements between group discussion.

 

I would like to thanks friends for those who know me very well and had patience with me and I am sorry if I had offended some of you.

 Finally, after remolding the modules I at the mist of Danger to get kicked out of school I managed to avoid getting a kick out of school and cleared my year 1 successfully. A danger of once a life time  with anxiety and fear. 

​
